Roseola!

I got a call from daycare on Tuesday September 18th that Lillian was runnign a temperature of 101.5. They reported that she was fussy off and on during morning (very unusual for her) and didnt really want to eat so they put her down for a nap and when she woke up she was very hot. So, I left in middle of my experiment to pick her up from daycare. I fully expected it was her teeth since she had been drooling alot lately. When I showed up she seemed unphased and was playing and smiling. I asked them if nothing developed overnight and her fever went away if I could bring her back next day since I didnt think she seemed sick.


BOY was I wrong! I could tell within an hour she was definately sick. She was so cranky. That night once she woke up at her normal first rousing time of the night (11pm) she came to bed with us and then about 3am she was nursing I thought oh my gosh she is on fire! We took her temp, 104.6! Of course I had to drag out my 'what to expect first year' book, what a lifesaver that is. I read about fevers because i was trying to decide if I should call doctor, by this time she was awake so I took her PJ's off and let her play in her room with me until 4:30am and I watched her temperature drop alot right after giving her tylenol so I did not call.


The next morning I called Pediatrician who said if fever lasted more than 3 days or got above 105 to bring her in. Everything is goign around since kids just started school so a fever is no big deal to them but it surely is to the new parent!


The fever lasted tuesday, wednesday, thursday and was peaking close to 105 but not quite, I got a reading of 104.6 a number of times though. Thursday the fever went down so I thought we were through the worst of it. She was still feverish friday so we took her in. Of course, by the time they took her temp it was normal and she seemed better. Shortly after we got home from the doctors office her rash came out. She was still out of sorts the rest of the weekend and too crabby to go to daycare on monday. She went to daycare on teusday but Jared had to leave to pick her up half way through the day as she was so tired and fussy off and on. She slept most of the day, went back to daycare on wednesday and did fine.

The worst part of it all was about three weeks later when verbatim same thing happened except it started on a thursday and Jared was stick as well. He toook off thursday friday with her and I took off monday tuesday wednesday. I took her to the doctor and they though Roseola but since you cant have it twice and they never saw the rash come out last time they said hard to know which time was or was not roseola and lots of viral illness's can make the young ones get rash's. Fun it was not! Thought it did not seem as severe the second time around.

First Haircut!

On Friday September 7th, 2007 Lillian got her first haircut. It works out absolutely perfect that cousing Caitlin cuts hair, who better to give the first haircut than family?

Mommy needed a haircut too so we went after work on friday to visit with Aunt Jenny, Grandma, and Caitlin and get our hair cut. It was a regular girl's night out, since friday is video game night for Daddy.

I went first then came the real fun. Trying to convince a wriggly 8 month old to sit in one spot long enough to snip the back of her hair. Of course she was much more interested in the mirror, the scissors, and especially the comb! She loves combs and every night after her bath I comb her hair and I let her play with the comb afterward so I have enough time for lotion, diaper, and dressing; in hindsight maybe that wasn't the best idea?

We don't intend on keeping her hair short. She had a few wispy strands in the back that were super long compared to all the rest. Those extra strands would get stuck in her lovely little 'neck roll' and they looked a bit stringy. But they were long and so cute so I was sad to see them go, now that it's done it does look better and it will all be able to grow long at the same rate now. Of course I saved them and intend to keep them along with other firsts: first boootie, first picture, first outfit for coming home, first tooth etc and then I will do a shadow box of them.

Our little girl is getting all these 'firsts' out of the way too quickly!

9 Months Old

Well, it seems this month that Lillian is set on making each weekend a weekend full of accomplishments. I like her timing since it seems that we get to see so much development in such a short period of time, and I am afraid we miss so much being away from her all week.

The weekend right after she turned 8 months she started crawling more than 2 steps; she did 5, then 7. She still drags her left leg behind her a lot and isnt fast though. She also started playing peek a boo earler in the week, looking out from under her standing toy that has toys hanging down and doing peek a boo, it was self iniated but now we do it with her all the time at home and at daycare. Started sayind a dogdagdagdagdog sound when I say doggie and play with stuffed dogs sounds VERY close to dog.

She stayed at this pace of 5-7 crawl steps most week then the following weekend I set her down and opened kitchen door since I was cooking and she crawled aross kitchen 3x in a row to get to the door I had opened (not fast yet).

Now she is also standing and pulling herself up on everythign--even things that she shouldnt even try, before it was hit or miss as to when she did it, now its constantly and the kicker is that she is letting go with one hand then she even held on and walked the length of DH today while he was laying down--my eyes about bugged out of my head and I asked DH "DID you see that, did you see that???? He was like UH, yeah, layin right here remember" LOL, anyway it was sad but happy and amazing.

As I sit here typing she has terrorized the room and all the toys I have layed around for her and managed to crawl under my chair and is ripping apart a magazine. She loves paper!

This week (September 8th) she says DG consistently when excited around the dogs. She is babbling up a storm all time, when I read her evening book I dont think she can hear it!

She also started solids 3x a day on weekend after she turned 9 months, started solids 3x a day at daycare too the week before turning 9 months.

8Months

Well yet another month has passed and she is now 8 months old. 8/12 = 2/3 of a year as parents. We have changed more in that 2/3 a year than perhaps we, as adults and as a couple, have ever changed but it dims in comparison to how much Lillian has changed. I was organizing pictures the other day and I was amazed to see this strange, wrinkly, tiny, hairy little baby looking up at me from the pictures.

Thankfully, she has started to eat her baby food with an interest now. Before she would eat a bit when it was time but not really too interested in it nor did she eat anything substantial. She is loving her food now and often times we cant shovel it in fast enough. If we go too slow she cries. I have made most all my own baby food so far and she has done well, we are trying to introduce her to wide variety of flavors and textures now in the hopes she wont be a picky eater later. Breastfeeding also helps with this since she has already tasted those flavors in my breast milk and I eat a wide variety of foods and a pretty healthy diet.

So far she has tried and liked: sweet potatoes, squash, zucchinni, carrots, spinach, corn, potatoes, black beans, pumpkin, and asparagus.

We have not done as wide a variety of fruits but she has tried: bananas, blue berries, raspberries, apples, pears, peaches, and watermelon.

I have also started introducing spices, very mild spices come first in very small quantities and then you work your way up. Many countries have their children eating spices right from the beginning with no problems. It is a good way to add flavor and get her introduced to flavor early without adding sugar or salt. So far she has tried and liked cinnamon that I mixed into pumpkin and applesauce.

The only item that has not went well is rice cereal which seems to cause her to have massive issues of vomiting, not every time she eats it but every time she has had one of these marathon vomitting sessions where she will vomit 8-12 times until all the contents are out and she is just heaving. It is so sad and had me really worried for a bit, the only thing I could figure out as a link on each day was rice cereal. I stopped feeding her rice cereal and no more vomiting. Of course rice has a very low allergenic potential so I dont htink its that, I dont know if it coudl have been perhaps something wrong with that specific box. I will wait a bit longer and try it again to see what happens since I doubt we will be able to avoid eating rice unless its necesaary for her because we eat it all the time. She has done well with barley, and oatmeal.

Aside from all the excitement in the food arena she has achieved the following milestones: pre-crawl stage on all fours where she used to do a tripod and get one leg stuck. She now says
mamamammamam occasionally instead of just daddadadad and she also throws in dg variation.

She also loves pulling on doggies eyes, ears, tail etc while laying on carpet, they are very good and at the most lick her off of them and then move over a bit--much to their future dismay it wont be long until she follows them! She is also a jumper and jumps all the time when you are holding her, I was told I did this too and also loved my johnny jumper so she doesnt get that from a stranger.

Seven Months

Wow, it's official, we have been a family of three for the majority of a year! Time really does fly.

The scientist in me has been extrapolating, here is what I figure: If the first 6 months seemed like 6 weeks then she should be 18 years old in 6weeks/26weeks=0.23 18years x 0.23= 4.14 years=4years 7weeks 1day & 8 hours!!!! AND if what everyone tells me is true and the time goes even faster once they get older then I had better really cherish these baby days huh???

I must admit that I am writing this post way way late so I wont coment much on milestones--there will be alot of description for 8 months since that was what I was going to start today (early) when I realized I forgot last month.

She is starting to eat her solid foods a bit better, so far she has not rejected anythign we have tried: sweet potatoes, rice cereal, carrots, spinach, squash. I have been making her baby food thus far and it is pretty easy.

She loves to jump in her jumpee or now in her excersaucer as she is strong enough to make it bounce up and down. She is also a pro at sitting up and leaning to get what she wants though she will take a tumble while doing this still at times. On a funny note she also loves to be on Daddy's shoulders, it gives her a nice viewpoint plus she loves to lick his head while grabbing his face and ears to hold on; it's adorable.

One of her favorite thigns is to be outside, she especially likes to swing on our front porch and if the wind blows she opens her mouth like she is trying to taste it. Another thing she loves to do is take a bath, she will also open her mouth and catch the water sprays. She splashes alot and smiles. She will drink as much of the water as you will let her. I have been trying to make sure to dribble water down her face alot so she will get used to it (making bath time much easier) and so she will like the water and not be afraid of it--she does great, blinks her eyes or rubs them and keeps on smiling and playing. She also loves the kiddie pool, I have even used it in the kitchen one day with a pitcher of water in it so I could get some work done in there, that with a few dishes thrown in and she floated them around and splashed for over an hour (with a splash radius of about a foot which I wasnt expecting!).

She also really has 'awakened' to the dogs. Before she was occasionally noticing them and liking them. Now she always seems to be on the lookout for them. She will scream and scream is she sees them walk past, utnil they come up to her then she will smile and usually pull away because they are inevitably licking her in teh face. They are very good with her, seh is also starting to tug, pull, and poke them in the face and they never bat an eye--even when I saw her sticking her little finger into their eyes, Sachi moved her face and licked Lillian (good distraction technique).
