I never posted but here are the results of her 2 year check up.
32.25 inches (10-25%)25.5 lbs (25-50%)19.25 inch head circumference (75% ile)--finally she may be able to balance her head some day, that is down from 95+% every other time!
Overall, no concerns, advanced verbal skills and a bit on the short side. She is still in 18month clothes and doctor was surprised that I thought that she had just gotten her growth spurt as she grew out rest 12mo pants and some one piece 18mo pj's. Overall seems she has flip flopped again with her height to weight ratios which she has done a couple times now, so perhaps she is getting ready to grow taller. Verbal skills seem on par with ~ 3 year old desired milestones. The doctor was surprised to hear her saying a few different things which were nothing compared to normal since she was being 'shy' and even Jared commented on how this was far sub-standard of her typical dialogue.
A friend of ours child is very close in age to Lillian and is opposite, talks less and is 100% active I dont know if I coudl keep up with the child myself! He can kick a ball, hit a ball with a bat, run (like really run not Lillian trot). So it is interesting to see the different aptitudes the kids take on so young--and the already apparent difference between boys and girls. Talking is definately her venue of choice. It makes it interesting with her looking younger too as people will tend to be a bit shocked and ask how old she is since she looks about height of 18month old, with hair down to her shoulders and a ~3 year old vocabulary!
Welcome to my rendition of our family via blog....we're made with a slightly different recipe including a dash of IVF, a side of CF, a splash of fostering, a fistful of budgeting (sometimes just a pinch), and hopefully at some point we'll mix our recipe up by adopting. Cause & Effect
Lillian wanted so desperately to go outside today, "just for a lil bit" that I didnt want to deprive her but since it was a bit warmer today (think 30's) the snow was a bit slushy, water was dripping from roofs and trees etc. So I told her we could walk around the block, the sidewalks were clear and melted for the most part. We got 1/2 way down the block to a mud puddle which she just loves and she was good and asked to stomp in it.
I have a 'thing' for letting her do this, I dont really remember being able to stomp in mud puddles. Perhaps due to my being a self-induced adult too early or maybe I was told 'no' before---I really dont remember. My thinking on this is, it's fun for her, it doesnt hurt her and as long as she asks and we aren't getting ready to go anywhere what is the harm? I would like a bit of tomboy nature in her anyway.
If I had a house full of kids wanting to do that.........or a perfect home that had to stay just so......or carpet.........or I didnt buy 99% of her clothes from garage sales maybe I would feel different but really for me, at least now, its not a big deal. Normally I take her in, rinse off her boots and pants, throw them in the to be washed pail and change her into her PJ's a bit early. Plus, she really loves it. I read in a kids developmental psychology book that it makes them feel 'big' because they can see a big effect with the splashing, they can see their impact, and they can learn cause and effect.
so I guess this is one of my small attempts to not rub that off on her.
All has went really well before tonight..............
She got more than she bargained for.................................................................
See what I mean??

She definately learned cause and effect here----
Cause: Getting overly into stomping and trying to make a bigger splash!
Effect: Making a TOTAL body splash down on her hands and knees!
2nd Effect: Mom will hold your hand and walk home with you but won't carry you (she wasnt hurt at all). She was actually fine with it once we talked about it, she was interested to see it had gotten in her face, on her hands and just about soaked through everything on her bottom, after that she happily walked home.
I got her to pose by telling her we needed to show all her grandparents her big splash--she liked that! Now I just hope she doesnt intend any repeat performances this involved a coat washing and mini bath!

What Michiganders Do
Poor Lillian who loves to be outside is stuck with two parents who hate the cold and also just so happen to live in MICHIGAN! We have been trying to do a better job at letting her explore the snow. She doesnt like the limited mobility but always asks to go outside for 'just a little bit' or walk 'just a little bit'. Its cute and often works.
We took her sledding for the first time in January, it was a heavy fresh snow fall. We had never bought a sled before and lesson learned, dont wait until January almost everyone is out and those who do have sleds left you have your choice of the $3 feel every bump in your path tailbone crusher or the expensive go really fast sled every kid at the hill wants. Of course Jared went with the later. Lillian wasnt sure what to make of the sledding at first. She was definately a bit freaked out the first time but then wanted to go again...but only with Daddy! Eventually she saw another little girl about 3 going down by herself and wanted to 'go by myself'. So we took her to a spot where the snow was mounded and she would go slow...so slow in fact she wasnt moving so we tried to give her a bit of a push while I was walking in front of her less the sled did start moving and she fell backwards...she was not amused and hadnt quiet grasped the holding on part. She still wanted to go by herself again but we convinced her that mom was a safe bet and eventually she was won over. Unfortunately I put my feet down as we got to the bottom because we had migrated into a well worn path and were FLYING and the snow flew up in her face---again not amused.
Despite a less than spectacular first trip out she continues to ask to go back so we shall see. I try just pulling her around the yard and block in the sled but she's not a big fan, she would rather run around.
After the big snow fall that we went sledding on was melting during a 'heat wave' this month I took Lillian outside to play in the snow---that's more my style when you arent freezing! We made her first snowman which she aptly named 'snowman'. The next day she was very excited to go check on him when we got home. She ran up to him, grabbed his eye out (a grape) and popped it in her mouth and looking very pleased with herself said 'mmm snowman's good, I want more'. I was horrified and asked her jokingly if she was eating him, she continued to be proud of herself for her accomplishment and proceeded to tell Jared while looking for the other eye (which had melted and rolled to the ground which I quickly covered with some grass).
The next day she was very excited once again to see her snowman but upon arriving home the only sign left was a wet and dirty scarf---she still hasnt figured that one out! She wanted to know where he went, what he was doing, try explaining melting to a 2 year old--beats me. So we told her he had to go away it was too warm and he could come back when it was cold again. She picked up his scarf and wanted to wear it, once I had convinced her that it was too wet and yucky she said we had to take it in so Daddy could wash it for him (the snowman). Very cute.
We just got a fresh snowfall so here are a few pictures from this week. This was when there still wasnt alot, we probably have 6-8 inches now.
She discovered some of her toys still work in the snow, she loves this teeter totter and her slide if I wipe it off first. I have convinced her that the stroller, car, and wagon are broken because its too cold--I wonder how long that will work? There is no way I am pushing a stroller through 1/2 a foot of snow.

Daddy's Little Geek Squad
Well I think it is inevitable at this point, I am going to be faced with TWO computer geeks in one house (and will love it). Between Jared and I both having laptops for work and then Jared has one here at the house someone is always on a computer. When not on his computer Jared is generally working on one for someone, especially lately people seem to have computer problems in spurts. Anyway a couple weeks ago she wanted sooo badly to play with Jared's laptop that we got out a toy one that I had gotten for her at a garage sale last year and put away. It is still too old for her but she LOVES it, carries it around, pushes the buttons and says she is 'playing her games'. She will tell me, "daddy carries his laptop (which sounds like lap-op) and I carry mine".
So a couple nights ago Jared was working on someone's laptop and he had to take it apart. This puts some of Lillians favorite activities together (helping dad, using dad's tools, and laptops)! So she of course wanted on his lap. He gave her a tiny little mini screw driver and she was trying to mimic his actions, this went fine until she jabbed it at the LCD screen! So we got her laptop for her and she sat on Jared's lap and 'fixed' hers while he worked on the real one. It was SO cute, we noticed she was doing exactly what Jared was doing on the real one to hers so he started doing very elaborate excercises on it, just makings stuff up and she would do the same. He tilted it to the side and blow on it, she would, he lifted it up and looked under, she did, he closed and opened it a couple times then looked at it sideways, she did, it was absolutely adorable, I wish I had caught it on video. So now, she is convinced her laptop is all fixed. She absolutely balled when I finally had to make her go to bed over 45 minutes late ebcause she still wanted to fix her laptop MORE, she even wanted to take it to bed.
Yes, it is true I am for SURE fighting a loosing battle against the geek squad that is forming......

Singing
Lillian loves to sing, tonight she was in a big singing mood when we got ready for bed. She sings along and requests various songs, some we have learned off a kids song CD I bought, others are just the typical nursery rhyme ones. Tonight I tried singing really quiet and delayed to most of them to see what she knew.
She can sing with surprising accuracy (at least 80-90%):
twinkle twinkle
jingle bells (a shortened version I always sing with her)--this also happens to be her favorite
ABC's including the ending verse of next time wont you sing with me, she gets K/L and then picks back up on P/Q most of the time
rock a bye baby
ring a round the rosies
There are a few more I will have to try out later.
She sings ring a round rosies alot, in fact we were headed to a christmas party in december and she sang it at least 30 times straight so Jared started putting in funny words about elephants or singing different songs and she would say, " no daddy sing---no elephant-----no no no ring a rosie daddy and on and on" after none of that seemed to be working and she was frustrated she said very loud, "NO JARED, NO SING"! That didnt go over well with 'daddy' as you might imagine. So now we have taught her our names but whenever I say Jared she says, "mommy say Jared I say DADDY" with alot emphasis, it's very cute.
